HOW IT ALL STARTED
I first became involved with tracing my Family History about 12 year’s ago, although I can remember as a young boy, my Late Paternal Grandad telling me stories about his parents and grandparents, but unfortunatly at such a young age, I didn’t take any notice.
When I first met my wifes family, I found that both my then future Mother in Law and my wife’s paternal Auntie where both interested in tracing their respective Family History, and that my soon to be wife was fanatical about the subject, spending what seemed at the time a small fortune on research (this was before the internet became such a boon to Genealogists) and certificates.
Well the Old maxim ‘If You Can’t Beat Them- Join Them’ seemed to be just about right, so that is just what I did!
Although so far I haven’t been as successful as my wife in tracing my root’s (She has gone back as far as 1742, and also found a brace of Transported Convict’s ( Transported to Australia for Highway Robbery)). I have traced some of my Family History back to the mid 19th Century.
Oh how I wish I had listened to Grandad all those year’s ago, as it is now my Paternal side that I’m having problems traceing.
